The private like feature had been available to X's premium subscribers for some time. With this generalization move, everyone will benefit from a feature that was previously exclusive to premium subscriptions. 

Elon Musk, who was bombarded with questions after the news that the likes would remain private, stated, "It's important to allow people to like posts without being attacked."
