BeReal makes a name for itself as an anti-Instagram app

BeReal, which advocates naturalism and is considered an anti-Instagram app among people, became the most downloaded social media app in the U.S. last month.

BeReal, which originated in France, frequently broke down because it did not have the technical expertise to handle the sudden surge of interest. Nevertheless, it reached 1.7 million downloads in the week of July 11 and has remained at the top of the category with the most downloads since July 14.

The main reason users call BeReal "anti-Instagram" is that they only have 2 minutes to take a photo. They receive a notification in the application about this time, which is given once a day, and it is not possible to add filters or effects to these photos. While the photo is being taken, the front and rear cameras are activated at the same time, so you and everything around you are shown in the camera in the most natural state of the moment.

The company's founder, Alexis Barreyat, founded BeReal in 2020, and in 2021 the company received a $30 million investment. Now the estimated value of the company is about $600 million.
