Heinz Vending Machine Turns Pickles Into Ketchup

According to a survey conducted by Heinz in the Netherlands, one in four adults like the taste of pickles, but 38 percent of this group remove pickles from their hamburgers. When asked about their reasons for removing pickles before eating a hamburger, one in four people said they did not like the texture of the pickle. Heinz, on the other hand, offers a solution to the pickle texture problem with its Pickle Changer vending machines that turn pickles into ketchup.

The brand, whose founder Henry J. Heinz is also known as the pickle king, recently installed a manned vending machine in Rotterdam that works with a simple model. Pickle slices are accepted instead of coins, and Heinz's pickle-flavored ketchup is given for every pickle slice thrown in.

Mirthe Enklaar, Senior Brand Manager at Heinz, said: “At Heinz, we see hamburgers and pickles as inseparable as two peas in a pod. With the passion of Henry J. Heinz, the love of pickles is in Heinz's DNA, and that's why we recently launched pickle-flavored Heinz ketchup. With the Pickle Changer, the Dutch can replace the pickles on their hamburgers with pickle-flavored Heinz ketchup. Pickle-flavored Heinz ketchup allows the taste of pickles to be enjoyed without the negative aspects.”
