Dove Calls for Real Beauty on Social Media
Social media continues to increase the pressure on women to be perfect. Dove is breaking this pressure by encouraging women to celebrate their authenticity and share real, unfiltered photos. Partnering with singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha, the brand is launching a global #ShareTheFirst movement to empower women to stand up to the social media imperative to look perfect.
New research from Dove shows that women take an average of 50 different poses before choosing a photo to share on social media. And more than half of women spend more than 10 minutes editing the photos they share. This extreme meticulousness prevents real, in-the-moment experiences from being shared. Another striking result of the research points out that 6 out of 10 women do not share their private moments on social media simply because they are not satisfied with their appearance.
Bebe Rexha expresses her excitement about participating in this project with these words: “The best moments in life are not staged or filtered; they just happen. But there is always pressure to look perfect under the spotlight. I'm thrilled to partner with Dove to celebrate real, unedited beauty.”
