Ikea is helping Better Shelter bring 5,000 emergency shelters to Turkey

Better Shelter, a non-profit organization based in Sweden, offers shelters that take just a few hours to set up by volunteers. Better Shelter will send these shelters to the affected areas to meet the housing needs of earthquake victims during the disaster. With a donation of 100 million euros, the Ikea Foundation also helps bring these shelters to the region. Because of the donation from the Ikea Foundation, it will only take three weeks to get the shelters to the area instead of several months.

Better Shelter, which focuses on refugees in its work, was already operating in Syria. Therefore, it had a depot with 150 shelters near the disaster area. The Turkish Red Crescent quickly set up the shelters in this depot in Hatay, the disaster's most severely affected city. The support of the Ikea Foundation became important during the stage of bringing the shelters from Better Shelter's depot in Poland to Turkey. With its donation, the Ikea Foundation prevented the transfer process from taking months.
