Barbie Becomes a Symbol of Strong Women

Intent on highlighting the perception of strong women following the Barbie movie, Mattel has added new dolls to its toy series. Celebrating both International Women's Day and Barbie's 65th birthday, the company introduced a new Role Model Doll series honoring extraordinary women from various fields and countries.

The series features prominent figures of 2024 such as artist and activist Viola Davis and women's rights advocate Dame Helen Mirren. However, these one-time production dolls were not made available for sale. The dolls were designed to honor real-life women. Mattel also announced its aim to empower future generations by sharing women's stories through the dolls it produces, aiming to prove that anything is possible.

For 65 years, Barbie has been attempting to break the beauty standards it unintentionally or intentionally created, shedding light on women's achievements today. Barbie dolls, being one of the closest companions of girls, allow them to travel through their imagination as much as any other toy. Mattel, aiming to support girls in discovering their potential and writing their own stories rather than just envisioning a "beautiful" body while dreaming, is moving forward with this series to achieve its new purpose.
