Coming Soon: The Blue Verification Badge in Gmail
Gmail, which started offering support for brand logo verification in 2021, is now adding blue verification badges to emails. The system used by Google relies on the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) standard. According to the information shared by the company, from now on, Gmail will display a blue verification badge next to email senders, confirming their identity.
The BIMI feature allows brands to use their logos as avatars in emails. Brands that have been using Brand Indicators for Message Identification will automatically benefit from this feature. Google aims to differentiate legitimate senders from fake accounts through this implementation.
Upon hovering over the blue verification badge, users will see the message "This email sender has been verified," which is intended to help prevent spam emails sent on behalf of brands.
Starting today, Google will roll out the blue verification badges on both Workspace accounts and personal Google accounts.
The blue verification badge stands out as a measure to keep users secure and has become prominent on various platforms. On Twitter, the subject of discussion, blue verification badges have been associated with Blue subscriptions and integrated into Meta's paid subscription offerings. Whether Gmail will follow, a similar strategy in the future remains to be seen.
