IKEA Switches to Paper Bags

In line with its goal to reduce the use of plastic, IKEA is replacing the tiny nylon bags used to assemble furniture with paper-based alternatives. These bags, which contain parts such as screws, nails, and wrenches, are now available in an environmentally friendly design.

The new paper bags are made in Slovakia and China from IKEA's waste wood materials. Although they contain a thin plastic coating, they are recyclable, and efforts are underway to remove this layer completely. The company aims to use about 1,400 tons less plastic per year.

As of 2025, IKEA started using paper bags in new product packages and plans to expand this practice to all products by 2028. This strategy stands out as an important step that reinforces the brand's commitment to sustainability in all areas.
