Instagram has started testing a new dislike button that allows users to privately indicate that they do not like or find some comments inappropriate.

The feature will be available on both Reels and Feed posts. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, stated that this feature is only a test, and the number of dislikes will not be shown. He also added that this signal can be used to lower the ranking of disliked comments.

Meta stated that this test is intended to improve the quality of the comment section. “We are working on ways to help users better control their Instagram experience. We are making this new button available for users to privately indicate if they do not like or find a particular comment inappropriate.”
