Instagram has expanded their story feature, called “Close Friends” to cover the Reels and feed posts. Instagram users can now share their posts and Reels privately to their close friends list thanks to the latest update.

In 2019, with the launch of the original Threads app, Instagram has implemented similar methods to Snapchat in order to create a more conserved platform. Meta has enabled its user base to restrict the visibility of their posts to a certain circle. Instagram works on expanding this privacy based approach, and with implementation of the close friends feature, Instagram will allow users to choose what they publicly display in their profile.
