Meta’s mobile app Threads has become available again in Türkiye after a hiatus of nearly two years. The platform had been shut down in the country in 2024 following a provisional measure issued by the Competition Authority due to antitrust concerns regarding the merging of Instagram data with Threads. Throughout this period, the app was unavailable in Türkiye.

Following discussions with the Competition Authority, access restrictions on the platform in Türkiye have been lifted. Additionally, the requirement to migrate Instagram accounts to Threads has been discontinued. In the wake of the decision, the terms of integration between the two platforms have also been revised.

The app’s return to active status following the decision is viewed as a notable development in terms of competition dynamics in Türkiye’s social media market. The platform’s return to an independent operating structure simplifies the user experience and could accelerate its repositioning process.
