WhatsApp Introduces Recent Message Sharing for New Group Members
WhatsApp is gradually rolling out Group Message History, a feature that lets administrators and members share recent messages with people joining a group. Between 25 and 100 messages can be sent, helping newcomers follow earlier conversations without screenshots or individually forwarded messages.
History is not shared automatically: someone must choose to send it. Administrators can disable sharing for members while retaining the ability to share history themselves. Shared messages remain protected by end-to-end encryption, just like other personal messages on WhatsApp.
Everyone in the group receives a notification when history is shared, including timestamps and sender information. Shared history also looks different from regular messages, making it clear which parts of the conversation have been passed on to newcomers.
