WhatsApp's New Revenue Model

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called "Channels" in order to diversify its revenue model. This feature is currently being tested in Colombia and Singapore. Channels aim to provide users with various content through a one-way stream.

WhatsApp has developed this feature to offer greater access to organizations such as NGOs and verification bodies and to support channels catering to different areas of interest. Additionally, users will be able to join channels through invitation links.

Mark Zuckerberg stated that the phone numbers of channel administrators will be kept private, and when a user follows a channel, neither the administrator nor other followers will be notified. It was also emphasized that messages sent through channels will be deleted after 30 days, and WhatsApp will not retain any records of these messages.

WhatsApp's new revenue model stands out as a significant step towards increasing its revenue potential without negatively affecting the user experience. The Channels feature provides users with the opportunity to discover and follow engaging content, while channel administrators have the chance to interact with a wide audience.
